The GSDCV provided 3 demonstrations at the 2011 Royal Melbourne Show. This provided the public with an opportunity to see our GSD's in action, doing basic to advanced obedience, tricks, tunnels action and other fun. At the end of each demo, the most popular thing for the public was to be able to pat, interact and have photos taken with the dogs - who all loved the attention! Great promotion ! The dog stars were Matrix, Tessa, Dizzy, Charli, Cailin, Merlin, Lira, Abbi, KCee and Barky

Special General Meeting Notice - all members !
IMPORTANT NOTICE - GSDCV Members are advised
SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING
To be held Sunday 9th October 2011 at the
GSDCV Clubrooms, KCC Park, Westernport Highway, Skye
Commencing at the conclusion of Breed Survey at approximately 2.30 pm.
To discuss and vote on the below motion as received by the GSDCA from the German Shepherd Dog Club of South Australia.
Motion:
From January 1st 2012 the German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia recognize micro-chipping as a positive form of identification for inclusion into all of the GSDCA Breed Improvement Schemes.
Rationale:
Micro chipping is an internationally recognized identification scheme, and should be accepted as a positive form of identification. It is less a traumatic procedure for the pups to endure, and after all are we not here for the benefit and the protection of the Breed.
Since 2008 the GSDCA has had the opportunity to come up with a process and or procedure to integrate micro chipping into our control schemes. To date nothing has been forthcoming from the working party except for a wait and see approach.
Members and in particular breeders are urged to attend and be part of the decision making process.
Ros Vincent,
Honorary Secretary,
GSDCV Inc.

GSDCV's Good Friday Efforts!
GSDCV’s Good Friday Efforts !
Once again the GSDCV joined in the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal and and supported the kids in need.
The GSDCV collected $30,019.70 on Good Friday 2011, which brings our total over 28 years to around $412,377.90. The total money raised this year for the Appeal was $15,156,000.00 – a new record !!!
Members and friends from Western, Eastern, Northern ,Skye and Geelong branches collected on corners throughout the Western Suburbs, having a lot of fun along the way.
After collecting we all gathered at the Flagstaff Gardens for something to eat, then strolled down to Etihad stadium, where members from Western and Eastern put on demonstration with our GSD’s around 4 o'clock. As usual, the crowd loved the dogs, lots of info was given out and questions answered. Our dogs proved to be very very popular – who can resist a GSD?- and lots of pats and questions were sort after by the public.
Thanks to all the members who participated, and especially those who donated to such an important cause.
Next year we want to go bigger and better again, so consider helping out when the time comes!!

Changes to GSDCA Elbow Dysplasia Control Scheme
Re: Changes to the criteria for animals to be awarded the German Shepherd Dog Council
of Australia (GSDCA) ‘Z’ stamp.
At the 2010 GSDCA AGM held February, and after discussion and approval at the 2009 National Breed Commission Meeting, the following motion was subsequently carried:
That as from 1 September 2010 those animals that receive a Grade Two grading through the GSDCA Elbow Dysplasia Control Scheme will only receive a GSDCA ‘Z’ stamp if the measurement of arthrosis is less than 3mm.
This motion comes into effect on the 1st September 2010, which means that any animal assessed with 3mm or more of arthrosis on any elbow will be deemed to have failed the GSDCA Elbow Dysplasia Control Scheme and therefore will not be able to be presented to the GSDCA National Breed Survey Scheme.
If you have any questions regarding this matter please do not hesitate to contact me on 03 50220393 any evening after 6.00pm.

DPI Survey - Domestic Animal Legislation - members please read !
Department of Primary Industry Survey On Proposed Changes to The Victorian Domestic Animal Legislation
To all Members of GSDCV Inc. **note that this survey has now closed
As you are probably now aware, the Victorian Minister for Primary Industry, Mr. Joe Helper, has initiated an online survey through the DPI website, asking the public for their opinions on some proposed changes to the Victorian Domestic Animal Legislation. The proposed changes generally are intended to increase the penalties for dogs which are currently deemed dangerous, and are found at large or are not registered with their local Council. The proposals however, include rather extreme powers being granted to Council Officers, which would include the ability to seize such a dog and order its immediate euthanasia without further consultation of the dog's owner.
Information about the proposed legislation changes on the Government websites can be seen here:

GSDCV Fun Day and Open Show Success
The annual GSDCV Funday and Open Show have been run and won!!!!
On Saturday November 14th, Northern Branch hosted the annual Funday Challenge, that this year included the GSDCV Open Show.
Despite the warm weather, most branches were represented and loads of dogs had loads of fun !!! Winners in each ring proudly displayed their ribbons and celebrated their success. The fastest recall and the tunnelling events attracted the fastest (and the not so fast!) to test their skills, and a lot of laughs and fun was had by all. The Open Show went off well and was a great opportunity for the club to combine show and obedience, that resulted in a terrific day for the GSDCV Club.
Thanks to all who participated in the day, and congrats to Northern and all who assisted on a great hosting effort !!!!
