Obedience Training Administrator

Marilyn Wrigley
Resides: Mt Clear (Ballarat)

I obtained my first German Shepherd in 1976, and at this time the German Shepherd Dog Club of Victoria were considering opening a Branch in the Ballarat area of which I am one of the foundation members of this Branch. Since then I have constantly remained actively involved on both Branch and Club positions.
I served on the GSDCV Ballarat Branch Committee from 1976 to 1994, including amongst other positions, Branch Secretary for 15 years.
As well as on the GSDCV Management Committee in the following capacities:
- GSDCV Honorary Secretary – 8 years
- GSDCV President – 3 years
- GSDCV Obedience Training Administrator – 12 years (current)
I have been a GSDCV Obedience Instructor for 27 years, and a GSDCV Show Instructor for 17 years
I was awarded the GSDCV Outstanding Service Award in 1991 and GSDCV Life Membership in 1994, culminating in receiving the GSDCA Service Award in 1998.

I have always strongly believed in the versatility of the German Shepherd Dog, and actively support all disciplines, having shown dogs, instructing in Tracking and Obedience, and competed in obedience, agility and tracking. It is a privilege in my role as Training Administrator to attend as many branches of the GSDCV annually as possible to meet their members and watch their training in order to see that the training meets the standard as set down in our training manual. Another enjoyable role is the educating of our aspiring instructors to the time when they can be passed as qualified instructors of the GSDCV, so they can teach members of their respective branches to train their dogs to the standard as per our training manual. Attending as many lectures/seminars re dog training as I can to keep up with the latest training methods and ideas, and coming away from them refreshed I then look at ways of introducing some of the ideas into our training. I keep a reasonable library of books, videos and DVD's on dog training which at times comes in handy for reference to help solve a more difficult training issue. In order to help members train their dogs motivational training was introduced to our Club in the early 2000's and now most of our branches train in the positive/motivational way which helps dogs learn in a safe and fun environment.
