We "Blue" Them Away!

The German Shepherd Dog Club of Victoria Clubhouse at Manson Reserve in Wantirna was the scene of some hair razing events on Wednesday night the 7th of August. As reported earlier on this website the GSDCV and the Rottie club are embroiled in a hard fought battle to see who can raise the most money for the Bluey Day appeal each year. Last year the Rottie Club won and their police dog Rip has been giving our police dog Salem a real hard time.

Well Salem need hang his head in shame no more. Thanks to the efforts of our members the GSDCV handed over a cheque to Constable Wayne McNamara for $7,500. Rottie Club president Nicky Able was on hand to graciously concede defeat.

GSDCV members really did a great job both raising the money and helping out with the organisation of the raffle draw. Imagine having to fold thousands of tickets before putting them in the barrel. All that just to make sure Wayne was not going to pick his own ticket.

The raffle was drawn by Constable McNamara and three lucky winners are going to enjoy some very good times at Crown Towers, Azimuth Country Estate and Goldsmith’s in the forest.

The winners are:
1st prize a luxury two nights at Crown Towers - Yung Tra - ticket 2740
2nd Prize a luxury two nights at Azimuth - R. Hall - ticket 3817
3rd Prize a luxury two nights at Goldsmith’s - Cyril Hands - ticket 0294

Lucky third prize winner Cyril Hands was present at the draw and is show here on the left receiving his prize from club president Dave “Uncle Fester” Hynd. (see if you can spot if it is before or after the shave!)

Of course there was lots of merriment during the obligatory head shave.

Just so we all remember what they looked like before and so the victims at least have a memory of what their curly locks looked liked, a before and after shot was taken.

As can be seen before the removal of the locks or in some cases the expansion of the bald spot they looked like a motley crew indeed!

Standing left to right are:
David Hynd, Graeme Jacobs, Nick Ball (Eagle Products) Dom Cafari, Phil Vincent, Martin Robson and Frank Moody.
Kneeling are:
Constables Wayne McNamara and Andrew Adams

Club President David Hynd was not too impressed with having Show Branch Manager Martin Robson do the deed for him with a whipper snipper. We guess he was concerned that it was too dangerous as Martin was not wearing safety glasses!

A Bluey Day Beanie was auctioned off which impending haircut victim Frank Moody secured at great expense.

Even Club sponsor Eagle Products wasn’t safe. Managing Director Jason Williams had volunteered to be the shavee, but when he heard that we were on target with our fund raising, he went overseas and sent unsuspecting Victorian Manager Nick Ball in his place. Poor Nick thought he was attending a social function, little did he realise it included the ultimate haircut!

When all was said and done the shavee’s looked like:

….a motley crew! Some of the better halves were heard to mutter that it was an improvement others made comments like…Chopper Reid….Uncle Fester…..Egghead. We leave it up to you to match the names with the individual.

All in all everybody really enjoyed themselves, although some unrepeatable comments where made when they first stepped outside. The GSDCV once again proved that when it matters, or it’s for a good cause, the club can really perform.

Everybody who participated in the Bluey Day Raffle, either as an organiser, or a ticket seller, or most importantly as a ticket buyer, can pat themselves on the back. We raised $7,500 for a charity which does a lot of good things for very sick children and managed to have some fun along the way.

Keep an eye out for a number of colourful beanies/hats over the next few weeks at a GSDCV branch near you and remember, the difference between a bad haircut and a good haircut is only two weeks.
