Local Dog Team Best in AustraliaGSDCV
member Jane Wilmot and her trusty German Shepherd Dog, Toby (Iniff Excalibur CD), have recently
defeated some of the most highly trained German Shepherd Dogs from across
Australia. The pair finished first at the recently held Pro Plan 29th National
German Shepherd Dog Show and Restricted Obedience Trial. A modest Jane said that
being declared "best in trial" was a fantastic thrill and very
unexpected. Her
dog and best friend Toby, a three-year-old German Shepherd, was never expected
to win the event. As a puppy he didn't respond well to conventional
training methods. Jane believes that positive motivation is the key to training a dog and with the assistance of some wonderful Obedience instructors and handlers from the German Shepherd Club of Victoria (GSDCV), Toby improved ever so slowly. Jane is very appreciative of the time and expertise these people so generously gave her. By recently becoming an instructor, she hopes to contribute back to the club. When Jane was asked why she purchased a German Shepherd, Jane recalls that she decided on owning a German Shepherd after seeing two fine examples of the breed trotting next to their owner one day in the park, and thought that they were absolutely the most beautiful dogs she had ever seen. Jane subsequently purchased her first German Shepherd Dog, a female named Tess. It soon became apparent to Jane that appropriate training was required when owning a German Shepherd Dog, or any other breed for that matter. Jane subsequently contacted the GSDCV and as they say, the rest is history.
