GSDCV Inc. Supports the R.C.H. Good Friday Appeal
The German Shepherd Dog Club of Victoria Incorporated is
actively involved in many community charity efforts, one of which is the annual
Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
The
GSDCV once again rounded up its members to get behind the great work of the
Royals Children’s Hospital, by collecting for this year’s Good Friday Appeal
Not only is it great for the kids but also gives us a chance to promote our
wonderful Breed to the public each year.
The GSDCV has been involved in fundraising for this event for the last 24
consecutive years. Last year we had the record for the most collected, but low
and behold, Good Friday 6th April 2007 proved to be the highest record total
ever collected with the magnificent amount of $28,260.15, bringing our total
collected in 24 year’s to $270,138.25.
We have six designated intersections from Deer Park to North Melbourne which
members and their beautiful dogs collect from. Starting at 8am to 1.30pm then we
pack up and make our way to the Flagstaff Gardens where we all meet for a well
earned rest, something to eat, a nice cup of coffee or a cool drink, and not
forgetting our four legged companions. We then load all our collection tubs (all
200 of them) on to a vehicle, then we pose for a group photo. By now it is time
to head off to the Telstra Dome. Two members head off in the vehicle with the
collection tubs to unload and take them into the counting area, the rest of the
group and their dogs start their walk to arrive at the dome by 3.30pm.
Once at the dome the Demo Team put on an Obedience
Demonstration followed by some of the dogs performing some tricks, much to the
delight of a large group of spectators.

Then we get our 20 seconds of glory on TV. And finally we
find out the amount collected on the day.
Even
though Western Branch originally started this event and still remain the host
branch and co-ordinators, we must not forget the representatives from Bendigo
Branch for making the long trip down, the Eastern Branch for adding color and
humor with full bunnie outfits for 4 ladies and 2 men, and the ever supportive
Northern Branch, and to all those humans and dogs that wore bunnie ears, and to
those non members., and finally to the ever supportive public for giving so
generously.
Our thanks must go to the co-ordinators once again, Lyn Pickering, Bernie Lester
and Dom Cafari, and a Sincere Thank You to everyone that took part in making
this another successful and proud event for the GSDCV.
