German Shepherd Collects for the Good Friday Appeal

The German Shepherd Dog Club of Victoria Incorporated once again rounded up its members to get behind the great work of the Royal Children’s Hospital. The Club again collected money for this year’s Good Friday Appeal. The Western Branch coordinated this event as it has for the last 17 consecutive years, and again this year was ably assisted by a large contingent from the Northern Branch. This year’s total was $15,408.20 which is again a record (beating last year’s total by almost $2,000), which brings the overall total for the 18 years to $135,453.30, a truly fantastic result for such a worthy cause.

From 8.00am onwards Club Members and their beautiful dogs manned intersections across the Western Suburbs, at the off ramps of the Western Ring Road to Ballarat Road, the corner of Old Calder Park Highway & Keilor Park Road, the corner of Gordon Street & Ballarat Road, the corner of Moore Street & Ballarat Road, the corner of Epsom Road & Smithfield Road, and the corner of Racecourse Road & Boundary Road.

Club members and their dogs then met opposite the North Melbourne Swimming Pool at 2.00pm. From there they formed up outside of RMIT where they marched with their dogs along Swanston Walk to the Herald Sun Offices at South Bank.

The dogs once again were a great attraction, with many people stopping to pat the dogs. We would like to thank all members and their dogs from the Western and Northern Branches who participated, and gave up their time to collect for such a worthy cause.

This is an annual event which we are planning to continue next year and beyond. If you are interested in joining us next year, or simply want further information please contact Frank Moody on 5426 4286 or Shirley Petrella on 9749 1443.
